- As a user, I want to be able to see live and current wait times for restaurants in downtown Harrisonburg, so that I don’t have to go downtown and then waste my time waiting for a table.
- As a user, I want to be able to see all the menus of restaurants in one collective place, so that I can see which restaurant I would enjoy the most and know what I should expect to pay.
- As a user, I want to have the option to reserve a table through the app, so that I can eat at a restaurant downtown without having to worry about waiting for a table.
User Narratives
“As a user, I want to be able to see live and current wait times for restaurants in downtown Harrisonburg, so that I don’t have to go downtown and then waste my time waiting for a table.”
Problem
John and his friends, Chad and Michael, have had a tough week at school. They all try their best to succeed in whatever they do so they try really hard to maintain good grades. John, had three tests back to back on one day and his friends also had many tests throughout the week. Finally the time has come. It’s Friday! As soon as John and his friends finish out their classes on Friday, they make a plan to meet up to eat dinner in downtown Harrisonburg. Although they love to eat in downtown Harrisonburg, they find it very annoying that on weekends there are long wait times for the best restaurants. Every time they go downtown it is always super hard to find parking, which annoys them first. When they finally find a parking spot, they walk up to Billy Jacks because they really want some sticky nuggets. Upon entering Billy Jacks, they find out that the wait is forty-five minutes long. They are now super annoyed because it took them so long to find a parking spot, and now that they have a spot, they don’t want to wait that long for their favorite restaurant. They just wish that there was a way to see the wait times in advance without having to show up and become disappointed when there is a long wait for a table. Now John, Chad and Michael are mad that they can’t get their sticky nuggets so they walk back to their car and just decide to get nuggets from McDonald’s.
Solution
John and his friends just finished a long and hard week of exams at James Madison University. It is finally friday! The guys want to reward themselves with their favorite meal from their favorite restaurant in downtown harrisonburg. Their favorite meal is sticky nuggets from Billy Jacks. Who wouldn’t love the sticky nuggets from Billy Jacks? They’re a James Madison University student staple. Everyone loves them! Before the guys make the trek into downtown Harrisonburg, John pulls out his phone to check her app called ‘Your Table is Ready’. He found out about the app about a week ago from other friends that had used it. The fact that it was an app that is available for free download is so convenient for not only John and his friends, but also the students of James Madison University and the surrounding community members. John was able to see the live wait times of all the restaurants that wanted to participate in the service. Lucky for him, Billy Jacks takes part in the service. Once John was on Billy Jacks profile, he saw there was not currently a wait time. Him and his friends hopped into John’s car and they drove downtown to find parking. Once they found a parking spot, they walked up to Billy Jacks and were able to walk right in, find a table, and devour some delicious sticky nuggets! They couldn’t believe how easy it was to see the wait times of all the participating restaurants. The guys say that they will never go out to eat in downtown Harrisonburg without checking this app first ever again.

Problem
John and his friend Chad just got back into town from winter break. They both attend James Madison University. John is so excited to be back in Harrisonburg. He loves his family, but he also loves the independence that being away at college provides him. Chad on the other hand likes being at home with his family, so he is a little sad that winter break is over. John cares about his friend Chad so he wants to help cheer him up. John asks Chad if he wants to go to downtown Harrisonburg for dinner. Chad agrees to go eat with John. They both know what they want to eat but they don’t know where the best place to get that type of food is. Both of the boys really want chicken nuggets, but they can’t decide between going to Food Bar Food or Billy jacks. Chad considers himself to be a picky eater. He loves any kind of chicken nuggets, but he has a preference for onion rings instead of fries as his side. Not all restaurants serve onion rings, so he wishes that he could see in advance if a place serves them, instead of showing uo and possibly being disappointed that they don’t sell them. John isn’t a picky eater, but he does have a food allergy to nuts. He loves eating fries, but needs to know in advance whether or not a restaurant uses peanut oil to fry their food. It frustrates John and Chad that they can’t figure out this information in advance.
Solution
John and his friend Chad are newly back to James Madison University after winter break. Chad is feeling a little bit down about having to leave his family to come back to school. To help with this sad feeling, John invites Chad out to dinner in downtown Harrisonburg with him. The boys love chicken nuggets and want to get them when they go out to eat, but they can’t decide between Food Bar Food or Billy Jacks. Chad really wants to have onion rings with his meal and John needs to find a place that doesn’t cook their food in peanut oil because he has a nut allergy. John hears from a friend that there is an app called ‘Your Table is Ready’. John is curious so he downloads the free app to his iPhone. He is pleasantly surprised that the app shows him the menus of all the participating restaurants in downtown Harrisonburg. With the app they get to see the menus in one convenient place so that they can compare to see which place will satisfy their chicken nugget needs. This app also informs the boys of any allergy alerts. John finds this feature very important since he has a food allergy that he has to look out for. In the end, The boys find out the Billy Jacks has the onion rings that Chad wants and it shows that they don’t use peanut oil, so the boys choose Billy Jacks. Once they get to Billy Jacks, they order their meal and end up very satisfied with their sticky nuggets and onion rings.
